Episode #65: Virtual Campus Connections and Self-Care – Guest Sara Cowey

Hear from Sara Cowey, Educator and Activities Director, on creative and fun ways she is connecting students virtually this fall, ideas for staff collaboration and recognition, and the importance of self-care. As Sara and Phil discuss, everyone on campus (virtual or in-person) is “in this together” and it is critical to not only take care of each other but also ourselves.

A little about Sara:

I have been an educator at San Mateo High School for 28 years.  For 20 years I have served as the Activities Director and Leadership teacher. My current roles include: Activities Director, Renaissance Coach & Coordinator, Leadership Teacher, and Math Teacher.

I see myself as a coach and mentor; empowering students and bringing out the best in others. All students and staffulty have gifts, talents and skills. By celebrating these gifts, we inspire others to grow as students and as leaders. Being a leader in today’s everchanging world we must continue to evolve. Leadership needs to be about building relationships, community and belonging.

Outside of school, I am passionate about health, volunteering, wellness and learning.  Two of my favorite authors are Sam Bracken and Dr. Brenè Brown. I enjoy working-out, walking, traveling and spending quality time with my boyfriend, our friends, family and extended families.

Please reach out if you want to connect or join our Virtual Professional Learning Community! We are “better together”!
